Training as a Play Therapist

Experience

Recently, over a 5-year period I taught the Certificate in Therapeutic Play Skills as a Course Director for the Academy of Play and Child Psychotherapy (APAC) both in Cornwall and Bristol. This is the first part of the Post Graduate MA in Play Based Play Therapy. APAC is the training partner of Play Therapy UK. I am on their list of registered Play Therapists and Clinical Supervisors; PTUK is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) alongside Occupational Therapists, Physio Therapists, Drama, Art & Music Therapists and others

Full details of the courses can be found on www.playtherapyuk.org.uk . You can also contact head office in Sussex on 01825 761143, who will be able to answer any questions you may have and send you details.

Whilst I am currently focusing on my own clients and supervisees, I am moving towards training in other areas, I am happy to talk to you about the current situation in Cornwall for Play Therapy training.

Up and coming Training - StoryPlay®

As a qualified StoryPlay® Practitioner and now Facilitator of *StoryPlay®, I am offering training in collaboration with Nellie Boukouvala from Play Therapy Greece as well as Level 1 *StoryPlay®, starting with the three-hour workshop online on 12th June 2021 between 1pm and 4pm, brief details below:

StoryPlay® Nuggets” is a three hours’ workshop presenting the therapeutic model StoryPlay®.

StoryPlay® is a new, extraordinary therapeutic model, created by Dr Joyce Mills after at least two decades of progress. It is a model that gives the therapist or whoever is using it (educators, doctors, coaches, etc) the ability to use creative approaches for healing, problem solving, self-growth, and professional development. StoryPlay® uses the foundation of metaphors, storytelling, and play, along with the principles of Ericksonian hypnotherapy, among others.

In this workshop you will learn about the basics of StoryPlay® model and you will have the opportunity to experience the model through two experiential activities, so you can personally appreciate the effectiveness of the model.

Workshop cost

The cost of the workshop “StoryPlay® Nuggets” is £50.

This amount can be deducted from the total amount fees of the full StoryPlay® Level One course at enrolment.

Who is this workshop for?

StoryPlay® is a powerful tool for every therapist, regardless his/her initial therapeutic approach.

It is a model that can be used by any therapist who is working with adults, children, adolescents, couples, families, etc. It is a model that can benefit and be used also by teachers, health professionals and whoever works professionally with children, adults, classes, families, groups and the community.

So, this workshop is addressed to all those that work with children, adolescents, adults individually or in groups, classes, families, groups or the whole community.

Level One StoryPlay® Training

Description

This is a five-day training programme that teaches participants the origins, key elements, and essential components of StoryPlay® Therapy, including therapeutic metaphors, storytelling, story craft, sensory synchronicity), artistic and live metaphors, and therapeutic rituals and ceremonies. Through the training program, it becomes clear that this therapeutic model for trauma can be used with populations with special needs or conditions, such as natural or other disasters, post-traumatic stress, abuse, ADHD, emotional attachment, loss and grief, as well as in combination with other therapeutic models, such as Play Therapy, Family Therapy, individual or group therapy, Sand Play Therapy and all types of creative therapies (drama therapy, art therapy, dance therapy, etc.).

StoryPlay® is a multicultural approach based on resilience. A model that indirectly draws on the client natural resources, skills and strengths of each child, adolescent, adult or family and brings about healing, development and positive change.

It is based on the principles of Milton H. Erickson, the teachings of indigenous peoples, and the pioneering approaches of Dr Joyce Mills. Focusing on the power and spirit of healing narrative and play, each element of the StoryPlay® approach provides participants with practical, creative tools to work effectively with difficult or injured clients, using their own preferred approach or philosophy, including the sand tray, music, the expressive arts etc. In addition, the approaches included in the StoryPlay® model can be applied to a variety of conditions, including emotional therapy, schools, families, and hospitals.
